Royalty Revealed (Psalm 93)

Royalty Revealed (Psalm 93)
Psalm 93 is a short declaration of God’s sovereign majesty.  No Christian of any intelligence would deny the sovereignty of God or conclude that His majesty is inconsequential.  He rules.  He reigns.  This we know.
I do want to point out one little phrase in verse one, “The Lord is robed.”  Now we see also the phrase “He is robed in majesty” in verse 1, speaking of the fact that His reign is tied with His greatness and infiniteness and sovereignty, but this second phrase is different.  It stands almost completely indepently with only a descriptive phrase following it.
Take, though, those four words, “The Lord is robed.”  In the signet pieces of regal attire throughout most of history, the robe is kind of like a judges smock.  It indicates authority, position, officiality.  When the king wears a robe, it signifies his position.
Here these four words point to one simple, yet profound truth.  God is king, sovereign, authoritative, in control, on the throne.  However you want to phrase it, He is king.
As you worship, consider the One you stand (or kneel or sit or bow) before.  He is your redeemer, friend, Savior.  Yes all these are true.  Let us not, however, come into His presence flippantly, because He is also our sovereign King.  He commands our allegiance, our service, our praise.
Does He see these from you?

Two Creepy Pics...

I remember you, bear.  I knew there was a reason I'm terrified of the dentist.

I now have an irrational fear of Disney, fire, and children.

Stupid Brilliance (Psalm 92)

Stupid Brilliance (Psalm 92)
“A stupid person does not know, a food does not understand this:” Psalm 92:6
Einstein was undoubtedly brilliant.  Everything he set his mind to was a demonstration of his genius and his intellect.  Everything, that is, except one.  Einstein was like a modern Deist, only without including creation as something God did.  He didn’t like the idea of the universe or time having a beginning.  That would have meant a Creator.  He didn’t believe in a God who was involved in the affairs of men.  He only acknowledged that the universe was evidence a god (little “g”) that reveals himself in the order of things.  Confusing, huh?
With all his intelligence, Einstein missed the most important truth of all… the true Creator God and, therefore, Jesus.  He never knew how good it is to praise the Lord (verse 1).
Contrast that with C.S. Lewis, another brilliant man who, at one point in his life, ranted against God’s existence and set out to prove that lack of it, only to come to faith in Christ.  His understand of the most important truth is evident in his writings.  He did come to know good is it to praise the Lord.
Two men.  Both undeniabley brilliant.  One completely stupid.
Don’t be stupid.  Worship God.  Know Jesus.

From the Historic LOL blog.  You're bit of creepiness, or parental advice, for the day.

Nightmare Fodder: The Child Eater

Here’s a nice bedtime story to share with your kids. The Kinderfresser (Child Eater) was a wild haired, 16th century monster who would prey upon disobedient German kids. Children were warned that if they disobeyed their parents the Kinderfresser would snatch them up, take them home and rip them into little pieces.
Under the image, the mother says “So if you do not want to be quiet right now, I will give you to him. Therefore be silent and still, come in the house, so that he will not find you crying outside.” That’ll teach those kids to have any fun! Way to go, mom.

Satan the Student of Scripture (Psalm 91)

Satan the Student of Scripture (Psalm 91)

I saw it when I read it, but Phillips pointed it out clearly. Read verses 11-12. Did you see it? Read it again. Sound familiar? Jump over to Matthew 4:5-7. Satan knew Psalm 91 and quoted it in tempting Jesus. He used God’s Word, twisted, perverted, misquoted and out of context, to his own ends.

To me this demands a very simple response on our part. Do your very best to be a better student of scripture than Satan. Understand that this is a monumental and, on our own, probably unachievable task, but we have something that Satan doesn’t have: the Holy Spirit of God indwelling us and guiding us into understanding of God’s Word as we read it.

In short, read your Bible. Read it systematically. Read it in context. Memorize verses. Read a passage you don’t understand? Talk about it with other believers. Apply what you learn. Strive to be the best student of scripture you can be. You do not have to be a scholar, but every verse you read, every word you think about, every prayer you ask for illumination of the Word moves you in the right direction.
